Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression in Murfreesboro

person on decompression tableWhether you have severe back or neck pain, or have been told you have a bulging or herniated disc, you want relief that’s not only effective, but lasting. At Health 4 Life Chiropractic, we offer non-surgical spinal decompression, which is a drug-free option to address your pain or disc issue.

The table we use at the practice is the DOC Decompression Table, which offers separate lumbar and cervical decompression programming.

Conditions It Can Help

  • Bulging or herniated disc
  • Degenerated disc
  • Neck pain
  • Stenosis

What Are the Benefits?

This non-surgical therapy helps repair discs, and in particular helps those with severe disc herniation, and addresses radiating pain into the leg. With the DOC Decompression Table, we can also provide cervical decompression, so if you have chronic neck pain and degeneration, radiating pain into the arm and hand, or chronic headaches, we can do decompression for those issues too.

What to Expect

We recommend wearing clothing that allows for movement and discourage wearing a dress or skirt. Typically, you would have a regular chiropractic adjustment first.

Next, we will take you back to where the decompression table is. The table adjusts to a certain angle to work on a specific disc and vertebrae. Depending on which disc we’re going after, we will adjust the angle of the table to work on that area. A session takes 20 minutes.

How is this therapy different from traction?

Decompression therapy differs from conventional spinal traction, because it alternates between stretching and relaxation. The relaxation stages trick your body into staying relaxed and therefore maximizes the load and effectiveness of the treatment.

Will I receive chiropractic care before decompression?

Usually you would have a trial of conservative care first. We rarely give this therapy right off the bat. That’s because we want to see how your body responds.

Is the therapy uncomfortable?

We always ease patients into the therapy, so we’re not doing a maximum-pull decompression right off the bat. It’s important that we start with a little less to see how your body responds to ensure it’s as comfortable as possible. How many sessions will I need?

For most cases, we recommend 15-20 sessions for several weeks. Of course, every patient is different, and we will give you specific recommendations for your particular case.
